Spain could be forced to postpone Friday's World Cup qualifier with Belarus following an explosion of a generator inside Mallorca's Iberostar Stadium on Thursday.
Two
people have been rushed to hospital after suffering burns in the
explosion which has left one of three electrical generators inside the
arena inoperational for the time being.
As result, la Roja's
crucial clash with Georgi Kondratiev's men has been thrown into doubt,
with the stadium unable to generate enough power to operate floodlights
and scoreboards.
Workers have arrived at the scene in a bid to
repair the damage in time, but it remains unknown whether or not
Friday's fixture will proceed as scheduled.
Should the clash go
ahead, Vicente del Bosque's men can take a giant step toward securing
automatic qualification to next summer's World Cup in Brazil by beating
the eastern Europeans.
Victory would see the reigning world and
European champions needing only a point in their final qualifying
fixture with Georgia to pip second-placed France to top spot in Group I.
