Bundesliga announce record new TV deal

The Bundesliga has signed a new five-year 'double-your-money' TV deal which will see footage from the top two tiers of German football broadcast to all corners of the globe from 2015/16.

The DFL confirmed on Monday that they have reached an agreement with 21st Century Fox to show live clashes from the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga to over 80 markets worldwide, including every country in north and Latin America, a majority of countries in Asia and selected European territories.

Although no financial details have been officially released, the rights are expected to fetch significantly more than the current €70m package, with estimations placing the value of the tie-up somewhere between €100-150m.

These deals underline the fact that the Bundesliga has been recognised as a top media right in the sports business world, DFL CEO Christian Seifert said in a statement.

This collaboration with 21st Century Fox gives German football new chances for wide global reach and growth in the near future.

James Murdoch, COO for 21st Century Fox, added: The Bundesliga has, on and off the pitch, developed into a leading global football league.

We look forward to working with the DFL and will use our unique offer of sports broadcasters to attract an even bigger global audience to Bundesliga.

The Bundesliga has experienced a sporting and economic boom in recent seasons, with record attendances, as well as TV deals, being coupled with success on the pitch.

Turnover for the league as a whole passed the €2bn mark in 2011/12, whilst Champions League finalists Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund both posted their best-ever financial results in the past fiscal year
