Says:Valdes Targets Champions League triumph to mark Barcelona finale

Victor Valdes says winning the Champions League would represent the ideal ending to his Barcelonacareer.

The Spain international, who announced his intention to leave Camp Nou when his contract expires at the end of the season, saved a penalty as Gerardo Martino’s side kicked off their European campaign with a 4-0 win over Ajax at Camp Nou.

Valdes, 31, is hoping for a dream end to his Barca career and has been delighted with the support he continues to receive from the club’s fans.

It would really mean a lot to me to win this year’s Champions League as I know it is my last one with Barca, he said after the game.

We defended well against Ajax; we tracked back correctly and I did my best in goal, too. It was important for the victory that we did this.

I’m thankful for the fans’ support - it gives me more confidence.

I’m in a good moment, but I do not know if it is the best of my career.

After two open games against Sevilla and the Dutch champions over the last week, the goalkeeper admits opposition sides are becoming more attacking against the Catalans.
