Inter president Massimo Moratti is confident that appointing Walter Mazzarri as the club's new head coach earlier this summer will prove to be the right decision.
The Nerazzurri parted company with Andrea Stramaccioni at the end of last season after they finished just ninth in Serie A and Moratti has little doubt Mazzarri can guide them back to the top.
"We took Mazzarri as our new coach because he's a rock, our certainty. He's a strong personality and has everybody's backing," Moratti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We could have taken someone else as well, who would perhaps have been a braver choice or more entertaining, but we wanted a coach who's modest, not afraid to learn new things and listens to other people.
"The coach has to listen to the players and other people around him. He should be able to transmit his ideas to the squad.
"What we liked about Mazzarri is that he works hard and has plenty of experience. He gave me the idea that he can be Inter's new point of reference."
Moratti also briefly reflected on the summer transfer window and stressed that re-signing Samuel Eto'o was never a real objective for Inter, while he added that he would happily have signed Kaka if AC Milan had not snapped up the Brazilian.
He added: "We never really talked much about potentially bringing back Eto'o. We did what we had to do this summer. My dream? I would have liked to sign Kaka in the closing hours of the window."
