Andres Iniesta is set to extend his current contract at Barcelona, according to club president Sandro Rosell.
Rosell was giving an interview on the TV3 programme Hat-Trick when he stated that he expects to be able to announce the midfielder's contract renewal in the coming weeks.
“Iniesta is a key player for us," stated Rosell.
“It is likely that the next great news for Barcelona will be the renewal of Iniesta’s contract.”
The Blaugrana president also fielded questions on the task of replacing Tito Vilanova over the summer and admitted that while it was a difficult process, the club feel they have the right man.
“[Vilanova’s] relapse has been the worst news of my presidency. Hopefully he will win his battle but life goes on.
“We had thought already about Tata Martino the first time Vilanova needed to undergo treatment last season.
“[Sporting director] (Andoni) Zubizarreta chose the new coach from three names. I put down on the table that Martino would be my tip, nothing more. I will not say who the other two were, I don’t think that is right.”
The 29-year-old has made 242 league appearances for Barcelona since making his debut back in 2002.
